Three Key Takeaways from the Anticipate London Show
This week, we visited Anticipate London at the Excel Centre and it was great to see so many industry experts and forward-thinkers coming together to discuss the evolving landscape of facilities management. We attended some standout talks and left with three top takeaways that highlight where FM is headed.
1. FM’s Voice is Reaching the Boardroom
Facilities management is no longer just a supporting act—it’s taking centre stage in helping businesses achieve strategic goals. A key driver? Sustainability. Encouragingly, 75% of organisations now expect to meet the 2050 Net Zero target, up from just 53% in 2022, according to the IWFM Sustainability Survey.
💡 Quick win: Focus on “low-hanging fruit” when it comes to sustainability. Identify opportunities for instant wins and showcase these to clients—small changes can drive big results.
2. AI in FM: Evolve and Embrace
Emerging technologies like AI are transforming the way facilities are managed. From integrating AI into FM systems to uncover inefficiencies (such as HVAC systems running unnecessarily, saving one client £20k annually) to analysing occupancy trends and optimising building usage, the potential is huge.
However, success doesn’t lie in technology alone—it requires investment in people and processes. Teams need the opportunity to explore and experiment with these systems, backed by clear communication to ensure they feel empowered and informed.
❓ Ask yourself: What do you want AI to reveal, and how does that align with your business goals?
3. Progress in Decarbonisation Planning
The push for energy efficiency and Net Zero targets is gathering momentum. According to the IWFM x Equans Sustainability Report 2024, 56% of organisations are actively taking steps toward decarbonisation—a significant 19% increase from 2023.
